Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) – Polar Bear FC

1. Where does my registration money go?

Polar Bear FC is a non-profit organization, and all registration fees go directly toward registration and operation of the club. These expenses include:

  • Referee fees – Payment for officials in divisions that require referees.
  • League fees - Each league will require us to pay a team registration to cover league cost.
  • Equipment  – Goals, nets, training materials, soccer balls, indoor facilities.
  • Club operations – Administrative costs, insurance, advertising, and other essential expenses

We work to keep registration costs as low as possible through sponsorships and fundraising, helping to make soccer accessible to more families in our community.

2. What does my player need for the season?

Each player should have:

  • Shin guards (worn under soccer socks) – Mandatory
  • Soccer cleats – Recommended (Football/baseball cleats are not allowed)
  • Soccer ball
    • U8 - Size 3 Ball
    • U10 & U12 - Size 4 Ball
    • U14 & Up - Size 5 Ball

3. Why do registration fees vary by age group?

Fees differ by age division due to variations in practice schedules, game formats, and overall costs. For example:

  • Younger divisions (e.g., U8) have shorter practices, play on smaller fields, and only must pay one referee per game.
  • Older divisions have longer games, larger field sizes, and additional expenses such as paying three referee fees per game.

4. When will my player’s team practice?

Practice schedules vary by team and are set by the coach and normally start a few weeks before the first game. Practices are held on weekdays (Monday–Friday), weather permitting.

5. When will my player's team play games?

Game schedules vary by team, season and age group. Coaches will get all game info to the teams/parents as soon as league releases schedules. Most games are normally held on the weekends for all seasons.

6. How are teams formed?

  • Recreational teams – Players are assigned based on age, experience, and skill level to maintain balanced competition.
  • Competitive teams – Players are assigned based on skill, experience, and coach evaluations.

7. Can I request a specific coach?

We do our best to accommodate requests, but team balance is our priority. If you have special circumstances, please inform us during registration. However, requests are not guaranteed.

8. How much playing time will my player get?

Polar Bears FC is committed to ensuring fair playing time for all recreational players. However, factors such as attendance, effort, and game conditions may impact playing time.

9. What is Polar Bears FC refund policy?

Polar Bears FC understands that circumstances may change, and we offer refunds under the following conditions:

  • Before public registration closes: A full refund of the registration fee will be issued if a cancellation request is received before the close of the public registration period.
  • After public registration closes but before the season starts: A partial refund may be issued, subject to administrative fees determined by the Polar Bears FC Board Members.
  • Once the season begins: No refunds will be given after the start of the scheduled season of play.
